"I have to have an abortion. I can't even consider adoption. I can't handle the thought of my baby being out there somewhere."
Sounds a little irrational doesn't it? It sounds unbelievable that someone would want to abort their baby rather than make an adoption plan, doesn't it? Why do women abort their babies rather than make an adoption plan? Are women that cold and callous? What about the thousands and thousands of couples that can't have their own babies... wouldn't they want their baby to live and be raised in a loving home with a chance for a good life?
The truth is the statement "I can't handle the thought of my baby being out there somewhere" is very very common. We hear it all the time at the pregnancy center. Does this mean that mothers would rather have their babies dead? Does this mean mothers are so selfish that they won't think of making an adoption plan?
No!! The truth is that making a decision about an unplanned pregnancy is very very difficult. I know that anytime I have made a decision quickly or under pressure, it has not usually been a good decision. So often this is exactly what is going on with young women in crisis pregnancies. There is sometimes pressure from the father or parents to "get rid of the problem". Other reasons women consider abortion include financial concerns, other children, no money or job. Very frequently, the mother is feeling overwhelmed or not feeling well (morning sickness). One thing is common in most every case... the mother is not feeling supported and cared for.
Women also do not know much about adoption. Click the link below for some information that might be helpful if you or someone you know is considering adoption:
